A group of us went out to share the truth of the Gospel at the David Diga Hernandez "Holy Spirit" Encounter Event in Anaheim, CA. Brother Gerry Collins preached that Christianity is not about having your best life now, as many of the attendees were being led to believe by the men on the stage who promised them things that the Lord was not promising them. Brother Gerry preached from Revelation 3:14-22 - To the Church in Laodicea, a church that was concerned with their wealth and fulfillment in their physical life rather than looking to Christ alone. Jesus begins the message with condemnation: “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.” He emphasized their “lukewarm,” apathetic nature three times. As a result of their ambivalence to spiritual things, Jesus would have nothing to do with them. With their apathy came a spiritual blindness; they claimed to be rich, blessed, and self-sufficient. The same is true for those following after the false prosperity gospel teachers who promise you health, wealth, and prosperity now in the name of Christ. Yet Christ tells them to repent of their sin: “I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see” (Revelation 3:18). Their material wealth had no eternal benefit, so Jesus commands them to come to Him for true, spiritual riches. Only Christ can supply an everlasting inheritance, clothe us in righteousness, and heal our spiritual blindness. “Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me” Beware of teachers like David Diga Hernandez and those affiliated with him and his ministry because of his mentorship and association with false heretic Benny Hinn who rejects the trinity and preaches a false prosperity gospel. Many attendees are running to an event such as this to find a “spiritual blessing” or word spoken over their life, and they lack the understanding that all things are found in God’s Word and man shall live upon His faithful Word alone. The Bible says in Galatians 1:6-9, “I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!”
