Tune into this interview Landon Thurman had with two LDS Mormon missionaries and one church leader from the Redondo Beach Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints inside their church about why they believe in a different Jesus that is contrary to what the scriptures reveal. Some questions given to them to consider were: 1. What do you guys know about Christianity? 2. Do you think the Jesus that you believe in is the same Jesus Christ of the Bible, and have you ever tested it? They were asked to consider that same train of logic, that if a Muslim were to come up to them and say that believes Jesus was a historical figure, that he was alive in the first century, that he was a great teacher, but yet was just a man, not the son of god, and simply a prophet and not the final prophet, would they say that they then have a different idea of Jesus? They expressed that was a different Jesus. This led to further elaboration on their doctrinal belief about who Jesus is and who they claimed Him to be.
Matthew 16:15, Jesus asks His disciples, “But who do you say that I am?” Jesus challenged His disciples because He cared what they thought about Him.
It was emphasized our feelings can deceive us and only the Word of God is true. Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?
2 Corinthians 11:4, “For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully.”
Who is Jesus in the gospels? John 1:1-3, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
Colossians 1:15-17, He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
Mormon Doctrine says that he’s the spirit brother of Lucifer, and that we all are and Jesus is the offspring of Elohim and heavenly mother.
With concern, Landon shares that Joseph Smith’s revelation rejects John 1, and the LDS Doctrine has taught that Jesus was created and has a point of origin.
The Original Greek text John 1:1-3
En Archē Ēn Ho Logos Kai Ho Logos Ēn Pros Ton Theon Kai Theos Ēn Ho Logos Houtos Ēn En Archē Pros Ton Theon. Basically, this is saying that “En” means no point of origin and no point of reference starting place. That Jesus has always been God. There is no point where He became God or started to become God or that He was created in the process of Elohim.
John 8:24, Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
The call that is stressed with them is that if their not putting their faith in the right Jesus, then they don’t have a sacrifice for their sins and have a different gospel.
The Third Article of Faith in their teachings says, “We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.” That’s a different gospel in contrast to what’s presented in scripture.
In Galatians 1, the Judaizers were trying to tell Gentiles that if they wanted to become Christians then circumcision, an ordinance/ principle that must be observed in order that you might be justified and declared righteous before God. And Paul says that’s an anathema, that they’re accursed and sent to hell for that unless, of course, they repent and put their faith in the true God and repent for their false gospel.
Galatians 1:8-9, But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!
Galatians 5:4, You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.
Obedience to the gospel ordinances and principles does not merit any position before the Father to present our own righteousness. We have all failed.
At this point, Landon makes emphasis of the true Gospel message of Salvation found in Christ alone by going to the Law and then pointing to Jesus finished worked of the cross. Romans 3:23, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:10-18, “THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE; THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD; ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE.” “THEIR THROAT IS AN OPEN GRAVE, WITH THEIR TONGUES THEY KEEP DECEIVING,” “THE POISON OF ASPS IS UNDER THEIR LIPS”; “WHOSE MOUTH IS FULL OF CURSING AND BITTERNESS”; “THEIR FEET ARE SWIFT TO SHED BLOOD, DESTRUCTION AND MISERY ARE IN THEIR PATHS, AND THE PATH OF PEACE THEY HAVE NOT KNOWN.” “THERE IS NO FEAR OF GOD BEFORE THEIR EYES.”
We, as mankind, stand in a position before God as sinners, dead in our sin because we are from Adam. We’re not from God before in a pre-existence, but we exist under the headship of Adam. This is in disagreement with their Second Article of Faith. Isaiah 64:6, For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
Here are some interesting findings of their teachings:
“If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation. There is no salvation outside the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.“
Bruce Mcconkie Mormon doctrine P670 Nohn Taylor Journal of Discourses.
“In the pre-mortal spirit life, Jesus, Lucifer and all of us were the spirit children of God and His wives.”
Gospel through the ages PP. 15, 93-99 J. Of D. Vol XI P. 122
Joseph Smith denied that and in the King Follett Discourse he said, “We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity. I will refute that idea, and take away the veil, so that you may see. These ideas are incomprehensible to some, but they are simple. You’ve got to learn how to become gods as the gods had become before you.”
The Bible says in Isaiah 44:6: “Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: ‘I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God.”
We hope this was edifying and equipped you to defend the faith of true biblical Christianity properly and understand why the LDS Church is teaching a false gospel.
Here are some more false teachings from the LDS Church:
“Now then, in the kingdom of God on the earth, a man who has the African blood in him cannot hold one jot nor tittle of Priesthood; Why? Because they are the true eternal principals the Lord Almighty has ordained, and who can help it − men cannot, the angels cannot, and all the powers of Earth and Hell cannot take it off, but thus saith the Eternal, ‘I am, what I am, I take it off at My pleasure’, and not one particle of power can that posterity of Cain have, until the time comes the [Lord] says He will have it taken away. That time will come, when they will have the privilege of all we have the privilege of, and more. In the Kingdom of God on the Earth the Africans cannot hold one particle of power in Government” (The Teachings of President Brigham Young: Vol. 3 1852-1854, Fred C. Collier, ed., p. 43. Speech given to the Joint Session of the Legislature in Salt Lake City, on Thursday, February 5, 1852. Brackets in original).
“And Enoch also beheld the residue of the people which were the sons of Adam; and they were a mixture of all the seed of Adam save it was the seed of Cain, for the seed of Cain were black, and had not place among them” (Moses 7:22).
“Had I anything to do with the negro, I would confine them by strict law to their own species, and put them on a national equalization” (Joseph Smith, History of the Church 5:217-218).
From the day that the Priesthood was taken from the earth to the winding-up scene of all things, every man and woman must have the certificate of Joseph Smith, junior, as a passport to their entrance into the mansion where God and Christ are—I with you and you with me. I cannot go there without his consent.
Prophet Brigham Young,
Journal of Discourses, v. 7, p. 289
I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did It. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him, but the Latter-Day Saints never ran away from me yet.
